Although functional diagnostic systems have proven its great success in diagnosis the new faults of complex and real-time systems in many domains, it suffers from some limitations to be widely spread in practice. One of the main causes of this problem is its costly observations. The proposed research introduces the uses of the genetic algorithm optimization technique to optimize the search path of the observations required for the diagnostic process. This can decrease the time, cost of the functional diagnostic tasks. Therefore, GA-FD system can improve the performance of the typical functional diagnostic systems to be more suitable for applying in practice. It has proven its goodness when applied for real-time device.
