Abstract:
Some effort has been exerted to compute the entropy of Arabic during the past few years. Most of this work concentrated either on letter frequency or word frequency[l,4,8]. Up to our present knowledge, the dynamic morphological properties of Arabic have not been considered in computing the entropy of the language. This paper uses a medium size corpus to compute some values for Arabic entropy based on the frequency of use of morphological patterns, the frequency of use of Arabic roots, the frequency of use of prefixes and the frequency of use of suffixes. It is not surprising that the resulting entropy values are in the same range of the values computed based on letter frequency.
