     MVU Tutor workshop in Cairo

Some details on the Tutor workshop 26th and 27th of April, Ain Shams
  University Cairo:

  • Purpose: exchange of experience with online tutoring

  • Preparation: identify 3-5 principal problems that you have meet in you own online tutoring which

You would like to discuss with others in this workshop..

  • Outcome: a collection of suggestion for solutions to the identified problems

We conceive the first day at the workshop as the day of presentation of experience and
problem areas, and the other as a solution day.

Each participant is requested to prepare a presentation on experience with online tutoring in a MVU course. (The presentation should include information/considerations on the topics mentioned below) Each presentation has to end with the identification of 3-5 problems or essential areas in online tutoring that you want to discuss/work with at the workshop. We kindly ask you to submit the problem areas to us (by email) no later than 10th of April, as we need these areas in order to structure the second day.

   Guidelines for the presentations

Present information/experiences/consideration on (some of) the following topics:

  • Course type (introductory, intermediate, advanced), number and locations of participants/students in the course.

  • Teaching/facilitation mode: online, blended, face-to-face

  • Affiliations to official curriculum at own university.

  • Type of course activities: give examples of activities in your course – e.g.:

o Teaching a topic (telling the student something, could be in the form of a power point
         presentation, a talk (video/audio)…),
o Facilitated learning something (reading, analyzing, …),
     o Exercises (hands-on, testing, apply a theory …)
     o Project (perform a survey, design, implement … )
o Discussions (reflective forums, email, audio tools,..)
     o Quiz’s

  • Considerations on form versus mode of activity (e.g. the student were asked to study something but instead it would have been better to give them an exercise)

  • Organization/structuring of activities: e.g. beginning, middle, end, and milestones

  • Assessments type used

  • Communicational issues (communication between student and tutor, between students, study groups…)

  • Course material (ordinary books and printed material, online texts, simulations, …)
